Why record chemical amounts on each visit?
It protects you if a customer has a problem like staining or irritation, and it helps you spot pools that are using unusual amounts of chlorine, which can point to algae or high cyanuric acid.
How often should I test cyanuric acid and calcium hardness?
These change slowly, so many techs test them monthly instead of weekly. Test more often on pools using stabilized chlorine tablets, since CYA builds up over time.
When should I backwash or clean the filter?
Most manufacturers say to clean or backwash when pressure rises a set amount above the clean baseline. Record the clean pressure on the first visit so you know when to act.
