How it works
How projects & job costing works in Homeforce
Projects share the same customers, crews, pricebook, and invoices as your service work — so a remodel and a repair never live in two systems.
Scheduling
Break the job into phases your crews can run.
Build phases from a template, set dependencies, and assign crews or subs. When drywall slips a day, everything downstream moves with it and the board stays honest.
Daily logs
Know what happened on site today.
Crew leads log hours, progress, photos, weather, and blockers from the mobile app. The office sees the job as it is, and the customer gets a cleaner update.
Job costing
Budget versus actual, line by line.
Labor from timesheets, materials from purchase orders, and sub invoices post to the job as they happen. Overruns show up in week two, not at the final invoice.
Progress billing
Invoice by milestone, hold retainage automatically.
Bill deposits and milestones straight from the project schedule. Retainage is held and tracked per invoice, so the final bill is a formality — not a reconciliation project.
What it can look like
Illustrative example: a remodeling contractor running six concurrent projects averaging $45,000 each
- of active contract value tracked against budget every day
- $270kof active contract value tracked against budget every day
- when a 5% labor overrun becomes visible, instead of at closeout
- Week 2when a 5% labor overrun becomes visible, instead of at closeout
- of margin protected if that overrun is caught on each of six jobs
- $13.5kof margin protected if that overrun is caught on each of six jobs
- for remodels and the service calls that follow them

Have a question we didn't cover? Book a demo and ask a product specialist.
Can Homeforce handle both service calls and projects?
Yes. Service calls run on the dispatch board and multi-week jobs run as projects with phases and a Gantt view. Both share the same customers, crews, pricebook, and invoices.
How does job costing get its numbers?
Labor comes from crew timesheets, materials from purchase orders and inventory used, and subcontractor costs from bills attached to the job. Budgets come from the signed estimate.
Can subcontractors be scheduled on projects?
Yes. Add subs as crews, assign them to phases, and attach their bills to the project so their costs roll into job costing.
Do projects support retainage?
Yes. Set a retainage percentage per project; it's withheld on each progress invoice and tracked until release on the final bill.
Which plan includes projects?
Projects and job costing are included on the Scale and Enterprise plans.
