How to use it

- 4Download or email it. Download your invoice as a PDF or JPG, or email it to yourself. Your details are saved in this browser for next time.
What to put on a contractor invoice
- Your business name, address, phone and license number if your state requires it on invoices
- A unique invoice number and the invoice date
- The customer's name and the job address
- Each line of work or material with quantity, rate and amount
- Subtotal, sales tax (where materials or labor are taxable in your state), discounts and deposits already paid
- The balance due, the due date and how the customer can pay

Is this invoice generator really free?
Yes. Making and previewing invoices is free with no account. To download or email a PDF we ask for your name, email and industry once.
Should I charge sales tax on labor?
It depends on your state and the type of work. Some states tax repair labor or all services, many tax only materials. Check your state revenue department's guidance for contractors, then set the tax rate here.
What payment terms should I use?
Due on receipt is common for service calls, and net 15 or net 30 for larger jobs or commercial customers. Put the due date and any late fee on the invoice so there's no confusion.
Can customers pay this invoice online?
A PDF can't take payments. If you want customers to pay by card or bank transfer from a link, Homeforce sends invoices with a pay button and records the payment for you.
