Free checklist

Free plumbing inspection checklist (fillable PDF)

A whole-house plumbing walkthrough for service calls, home sales and annual checkups. Flag problems as you find them and hand the customer a clear report.

How to use it

  1. 1Fill in the header. Enter the customer, address, date and any other details at the top of the checklist.
  2. 2Work through the items. Mark each item OK, Needs attention or N/A as you go. Leave nothing blank so the customer can see everything was looked at.
  3. 3Add notes. Note pressure readings, the water heater's age and anything you'd recommend repairing now versus watching.
  4. 4Download or email the PDF. Download the completed checklist as a PDF to print or keep with the job, or email it to yourself to forward to the customer.

When to use a plumbing inspection checklist

  • Before a home sale or purchase, alongside the general home inspection
  • On annual maintenance visits for members or repeat customers
  • When a customer reports a high water bill or unexplained leak
  • Before remodeling a kitchen or bath, to find problems behind the walls first
  • After buying an older home with unknown pipe materials

FAQ

Plumbing inspection checklist questions

Have a question we didn't cover? Book a demo and ask a product specialist.

What should I do if the T&P valve doesn't reseat after testing?

Note it as needing attention and recommend replacement. A valve that drips after testing, or that hasn't been tested in years, is a common finding on older water heaters.

Should a plumbing inspection include a sewer camera?

Not usually by default, since it takes extra time and equipment. Recommend it as a separate service when the home is older, has large trees near the line, or the customer reports slow drains or backups.

How do I check for a hidden leak?

Turn off every fixture and watch the water meter's leak indicator or dial. If it moves, there's water flowing somewhere. Note it on the checklist and isolate it from there.
