What's the difference between an estimate and a quote?
In everyday use they're often the same document. Many contractors use 'estimate' for an approximate price that may change and 'quote' for a fixed price. Say which one it is on the document.
How long should an estimate be valid?
Thirty days is common. Shorten it when material prices are moving, and say so in the terms.
Should I ask for a deposit?
Many contractors take a deposit on larger jobs to cover materials and scheduling. Some states cap residential deposits, so check your state's contractor rules before setting one.
Can I offer good, better and best options?
