Free move-out cleaning checklist (fillable PDF)
A checklist for cleaning empty homes and rentals at move-out. It covers the detail work landlords and property managers look for at the final inspection.
How to use it
- 1Fill in the header. Enter the customer, address, date and any other details at the top of the checklist.
- 2Work through the items. Check off each task as you finish it, room by room. Do the kitchen and bathrooms first since they take the longest.
- 3Add notes. Note stains, damage or items left behind so the tenant or owner knows they weren't caused by the cleaning.
- 4Download or email the PDF. Download the completed checklist as a PDF to print or keep with the job, or email it to yourself to forward to the customer.
What a good move-out cleaning checklist covers
- Inside every appliance, cabinet, drawer and closet
- Baseboards, door frames, vents and other detail areas inspectors check
- Behind and under appliances where possible
- Before and after photos to back up the work
- Notes on damage that cleaning can't fix, so it isn't blamed on you

Will this checklist get a tenant's deposit back?
It helps, but it can't promise anything. The landlord's inspection and the lease decide that. Ask the tenant for the lease's move-out requirements or the property manager's own checklist and cover those items too.
How long does a move-out clean take?
It depends on size and condition. Empty homes take longer than regular cleans because of inside appliances and cabinets. Many companies quote by bedroom and bathroom count, then adjust for condition.
Should I take photos?
Yes. Dated before and after photos of each room protect you and your customer if the landlord disputes the condition.
