When to use a job site safety checklist

  • At the start of each day or week on active job sites
  • When a new crew or subcontractor starts work
  • When site conditions change, like a new phase, weather or equipment
  • Before roof, ladder or scaffold work
  • After an incident or near miss, to check that fixes are in place

FAQ

Job site safety checklist questions

Have a question we didn't cover? Book a demo and ask a product specialist.

Does this checklist make my site OSHA compliant?

No. It covers common hazard areas that OSHA addresses, like PPE, ladders, electrical, housekeeping and first aid, but it doesn't satisfy any regulation by itself. Requirements depend on your work, so check OSHA's construction standards or talk to a safety professional.

Who should do the safety walk?

Usually the site supervisor or a designated competent person. On small crews the lead tech can do it. What matters is that someone with authority to stop work does it and fixes what they find.

How long should I keep completed safety checklists?

Keep them with the job file. They're useful if there's an incident, an insurance audit or a dispute. Your insurer or attorney can tell you how long to keep records for your situation.
