What a good electrical safety inspection covers
- The panel and service, where most serious hazards show up
- Grounding and bonding, which are often missing or incomplete in older homes
- Shock protection: GFCI and AFCI devices tested, not just noted
- Older wiring types that insurers and buyers ask about
- Smoke and CO alarms, since they're quick to check and easy to overlook
- Clear notes that separate hazards from optional upgrades

Electrical safety inspection checklist questions
Have a question we didn't cover? Book a demo and ask a product specialist.
Does this checklist confirm a home meets electrical code?
No. It's a record of a visual and functional walkthrough. Code requirements depend on the edition your jurisdiction has adopted and when the work was done, and formal approval comes from the local inspector.
Who should use this checklist?
It's written for licensed electricians. Opening panels and testing circuits carries real shock and arc flash risk, so homeowners should not use it as a guide to inspect their own wiring.
When do customers usually ask for an electrical safety inspection?
Common reasons are buying an older home, an insurance request, adding a big load like an EV charger or heat pump, or flickering lights and tripping breakers they can't explain.
